Meet Your Instructional Designers
What is Instructional Design?
Instructional designers are professionals who have specialized training in designing effective learning experiences for students. They use a combination of learning theories, pedagogical (teaching) approaches, and technological tools to coach faculty about instructional materials and strategies that promote student engagement and success.
Instructional designers work collaboratively with faculty members to design courses and develop instructional materials that are tailored to meet the needs of students. They start by analyzing the learning objectives and designing the learning outcomes. They use their expertise to recommend learning activities, assessments, and evaluation tools that align with these objectives and outcomes.
Instructional designers are also skilled in using different technologies to support learning. They can help faculty members to integrate technology into their courses, whether it’s a learning management system, multimedia content, or technology tool to activate learning. They ensure that the technology is used in ways that enhance the learning experience and engage students.
Instructional designers also have a critical role in ensuring that the course materials meet accessibility and equity standards. They ensure that the materials are inclusive and accessible to all learners, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities.
