The University Times staff is interviewing students across campus as part of our “campus voices” project. Staff writers are profiling faces fresh and familiar to forge stronger relationships within our campus community. Check the UTimes website each week to see each new profile!

Anthony Searels is a senior criminal justice major at the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI.) Searels plays for the UMPI baseball team. On top of academics and athletics Searels works on campus in the athletic department. Before diving into his work Searels told me he is from Florida and chose to join UMPI not only for his baseball recruitment, but also because he knew a couple people on campus, so that helped his decision a lot.

Searels speaks on balancing school and work. He balances school and work by saving his studies until night because this fits his particular schedule best, “School comes first in everything. Of course, I have to go to classes. I missed the first game because I had classes, but then I went to the other games. Because I stay up late as it is, I do all my school-related things at night.”

Searels advises students to make time for themselves and encourages time management.

“One thing I can say is that a lot of people will get very stressed out and panicking. Find your own personal time,” he said.

Searels explained, “For example, do homework Friday afternoon, Saturday and then Sunday rest for your own personal time.”

For Searels, he plays video games to relax or takes time for friends.

Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions Anthony!
