Will Williams is in his second year at UMPI (The University of Maine at Presque Isle), majoring in art education. Williams started his educational journey studying secondary English, but he says, “I realized I wouldn’t be happy.” Therefore, he pursued his passion for art inspired by his very own good art education teachers.
Will has moved to Presque Isle, Maine from Datton, Ohio due to UMPI’s affordable tuition.
“I’ve taken my first classes at Umpi this semester” Williams explains, “I’ve already taken art through AP classes” (college accredited courses in highschool).
Williams describes his art as “mainly portraits or people” and explains how he likes to explore colors and mixed media. Williams joked that there are many eyes looking down on you in his dorm because he doesn’t like to step outside his portrait art style.
Williams explains that art and education at UMPI correlate for his education “after this semester, all my classes are solely art and education oriented. Learning how to teach, ways in which to teach, engage with students, and more!” Williams tells me he wants his classroom to be a safe and comfortable environment. He is inspired by his great art teachers from high school.
Thank you for chatting with me, Will! I hope to see more of your art someday!
