trick-or-treat

Princesses, vampires and other strange things made their way around UMPI’s campus on Thursday, October 28. With bags and buckets extended, already heavy with candy, children from around the community made their way through the dorms for a fun-filled night of trick-or-treating.

Trick-Or-Treating in the Dorms has been a campus tradition for over 20 years. Children from around the community dress up in their Halloween costumes and come to the dorms as UMPI students hand out candy.

Kids, however, weren’t the only ones dressed up. UMPI students also wore costumes. Everything from penguins to minions to hockey players roamed the halls, ready to hand out candy on the exciting night.

“My favorite thing was getting to see how excited the kids were when they saw the decorations and getting the candy. Seeing them with smiles on their faces put a smile on mine,” Ciera Radel, a freshman who dressed as the deer Snapchat filter, said.

Residents decorated the dorms before the event. Merriman Hall’s tombstones, cobwebs and streamers transformed the floors into a night of Halloween enjoyment and amusement. In Park Hall, many of the doors and students had Disney themed decorations and costumes. There was even a contest for whoever decorated their floor the most creatively.

The event drew in over 150 kids from the community. Even some of the parents dressed up for the occasion. For years, this has been an annual tradition that everybody looks forward to each year and hopefully for many more years to come.
