Presque Isle–At the end of the 2023 fall semester, the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) kitchen staff announced renovations to the cafeteria during winter break.

The cafeteria announced their additions in a written statement, noting, “It’s a new year and Kelley Commons has a fresh look and new offerings, including a Mongolian Grill! Stop in and check it out!”

Regulars at Kelley Commons have observed the minimal updates done to the area, even though the rest of the building is the same.

The salad bar is a larger and separate station from where it was before. With the installation of a Mongolian grill, the pizza department has grown substantially.

“The renovations made to the dining hall were a much-needed improvement.” Marah Russell, a student at UMPI, said in a statement. “We were left with extremely limited dining options when construction initially started. But with the addition of the Mongolian grill and updated salad bar, students seem a lot more content!”

Previously established stations have been moved around too. The breakfast section is now all concentrated in one area instead of being spread out across the room.

“I really enjoy the new setup of Kelly Commons,” Cassie Morrell, a student at UMPI and an RA of Merriman Hall, said in a statement. “The quality of the food has improved significantly, and the design is very practical. I especially like the continuous open hours for when I have a break between classes at unconventional times.”
