This scandal took place before there was much technology. Notes were hand-written and interviews were recorded by tape.

“Get out your notebook, there’s more. Your lives are in danger.” This is a quote by Deep Throat, a high-level government official. This quote is one reason the film is important today. It reminds us all of where journalism began. It shows the world how far technology has come. The way that we consume and report news has changed. What has not changed is the importance of the story.

Today, it is easy to invade someone’s privacy in the age of the internet. We all know more about celebrities than we care to. “All The President’s Men” demonstrates when a look into the private life of a public figure is necessary. Citizens have grown warier of the government. This is why we have journalists who dig up information. Bernstein and Woodward are examples of journalists who notice that something isn’t right. Their actions matter because without them citizens could not see the abuses of power by the Nixon administration.

This film shows what journalism is at its core. It shows why it’s so important to seek a story and continue until the truth is revealed. If Bernstein and Woodward had not sought out the details behind this story, the Nixon administration might have gotten away with it all. The Nixon administration would have continued the abuses of power. The scandal taught Americans to be wary of people in these positions. Not everything we are told is true. Every citizen deserves the truth. Journalists such as Bernstein and Woodward go through a lot to provide answers for citizens.
