“Sometimes it’s easy to forget that we spend most of our time stumbling around the dark.” That is until journalists shine a light on important issues affecting society. “Spotlight” is a film that emphasizes the importance of investigative journalism. “Spotlight” retells the story of how the investigative journalism team Spotlight uncovered the truth about pedophilia in the church. These reporters worked for the Boston Globe. The film begins in 2001 but goes through previous years. This two-and-a-half-hour film demonstrates the harrowing journey of four journalists investigating a case of pedophilia in the church. The four journalists are Robby Robinson, Sacha Pfeiffer, Mike Rezendes and Matt Carol.

There are many issues that people are not aware of until they are told about them in the media. One of these issues is pedophilia. Especially when it is happening behind the closed doors of a church. A church is generally a trusted place. Many people go to church to seek comfort in their faith. They seek advice. The film “Spotlight” shines that light on the horrors of priests who prey on children in the church. Not only this, but it also shows how one lead can cause more investigations that lead to even more discoveries.
