Your physical and mental health has a strong influence on your academic success! It is proven that students find college more rewarding and do better in class if they are involved with some type of out-of-class activity. As a part of the UMPI community, I hope you will take advantage of the variety of programs, services and activities available to you at Gentile Hall.
All you will need to do is get your student ID validated at the business office with both a current semester and a Gentile Hall sticker. Then, just stop by the Gentile Hall front desk and present your validated student ID.
Gentile Hall offers a multipurpose gymnasium, fitness center with cardio and strength
equipment, as well as free weights. There is also a 25 yard swimming pool, 37 foot climbing wall,
bouldering wall and elevated walking and jogging track.
Keli Marston, fitness and wellness coordinator, will be offering her very popular Fit Camp,
Stability Ball Core and Total Body Circuit programs, while Amanda Baker also offers a Water
Aerobics class. These are all free for students! Then watch for the Week of Wellness events
scheduled for Sept. 20-22. Topics will include Fitness Center equipment orientations, Stability
Ball class, Fitness Assessments, Stress Management session and a Body Fat, Flexibility and Strength
assessment. Keli is also always eager to share nutritional information as well.
Amanda Baker, recreation program coordinator, leads our Intramurals and Outing Club.
Some events to watch out for in the early weeks include a White Water Rafting Trip, Sept. 3, and a Climbing Trip to Acadia Park the weekend of Sept. 17. The campus Outing Club is located
in Gentile Hall and offers programs for all levels. It does some really neat afternoon/day programs
that take place nearby and are either free or at low cost. The club typically meets on Thursdays at 1
p.m. in the Outing Club office. It is always looking for new members!
To keep you from showing up at Gentile when the area is in use, weekly gym schedules are posted on both entrances to the multi-purpose area. Check here for class times, programs and special events.
Some of the clubs/groups that use Gentile Hall regularly, other than the Outing Club and
Intramurals, are the Swim Club, Disc Golf & Ultimate Frisbee Club and Indoor Soccer League.
We also have lockers available for day use only: please lock up your valuables.
