Did you know that UMPI has a Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) that gives faculty tools, resources and training to make their courses even more successful?  We work with faculty who teach in a wide range of modalities: in person, online, through video conference and everything in between.  CTL is comprised of 2012 Maine Teacher of the Year Alana Margeson, Ed.D., and Instructional Design Specialist Heather Nunez-Olmstead, M.S.Ed.  Together, we bring a diverse skill set and intimate knowledge of current best practices in teaching and learning theory to the faculty and staff at UMPI.

CTL is physically located in Preble Hall, in the 238 suite, but we deliver training, support and services in a variety of ways.  We can schedule one-on-one in-person meetings or meet over web conferencing.  We offer a variety of live workshops and drop-in events over the course of the semester, as well as work to connect faculty with learning opportunities from teaching authorities from the University of Maine sister campuses and other education experts from around the country!  We also have access to a rich toolbox of educational technology training that we can share to enrich your teaching experience.

Services that are popular with faculty include revision of course outcomes and rubric creation, Blackboard course design, using video and multimedia in courses, creating accessible content, student engagement strategies, midcourse evaluation and more!  We are here to help UMPI faculty achieve UMPI’s Academic Commitments throughout every step of the course planning, design and delivery process!

We try to make it easy to get in touch with us.  You can pop into the Center for Teaching and Learning location (on the second floor of Preble Hall) on Monday-Fridays to look through our semester offerings and lending library,  or by one-on-one appointment. Alana can be reached at (207)768-9554 or by email at alana.margeson@maine.edu.  And Heather can be reached by phone at (207)768-9544 or by email at heather.nunez@maine.edu .

Whether you are across campus or across the country, we would love to connect with you to help you build the course of your dreams!
