Visitors to UMPI learn about the university.

On Nov. 18 Discovery Day brought many prospective students to campus to learn about and experience what going to the University of Maine at Presque Isle entails. The day was a chance for interested people and their families to come to UMPI and get a sense of what the school has to offer and also to ask any questions about UMPI or college in general.

Meghan Schneider, who was an attendee of Discovery Day from Houlton, Maine really enjoyed the event. “I think it’s a beautiful campus. It’s very nice, with big rooms,” she said. Schneider also said, “I’m really considering going here. I’m going to apply.” She is grateful that everyone on campus was very helpful and provided her with good information that will help her decisions about where and how she will further her education.

Deborah Hodgkins, an English professor at UMPI, went to Discovery Day looking forward to speaking with possible students. She was very impressed. “I thought it was one of the better ones we’ve had,” she said enthusiastically. Her favorite part of the Discovery Day was the lunch with the visitors. She enjoyed the more one-on-one setting and thought it was a great idea. “I really liked the lunch. It gave you more time and had a relaxed atmosphere.”

Discovery Day is a great opportunity to explore UMPI and learn about its campus and what it has to offer educationally. It’s very important to learn and discover things about colleges you are considering. It seems everyone left satisfied, with their stomachs full from lunch, their questions answered and having met many new people.
