{"id":9171,"date":"2024-10-22T10:09:25","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T14:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/?p=9171"},"modified":"2024-10-22T10:09:27","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T14:09:27","slug":"reed-art-gallery-hosts-work-of-pi-writer-artist-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/2024\/10\/22\/reed-art-gallery-hosts-work-of-pi-writer-artist-teacher\/","title":{"rendered":"Reed Art Gallery Hosts Work of PI Writer\/Artist\/Teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-99d59b0101cbe0634ddde3f107f66b8d\">by Professor Jen Lynds, UTimes Advisor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-fc0e302d7530b96a86ec61d4f1c4d9b4\">Glenna Johnson Smith seldom laid down her pen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-cd87293cb70dbea0385a8540e32fa782\">She continued to teach poetry, lead writing seminars, and write her first book, even as she entered her nineties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-419686d51fef935db51d457e8f318384\">It was only fitting that the University of Maine at Presque Isle recognized her perseverance with an exhibition at the Reed Art Gallery in the Center for Innovative Learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-04cd1abb622b28f7d2785cc4d2ab4fed\">Johnson Smith, a writer, educator, and long-time citizen of Presque Isle, passed away in 2020.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-70f33ef6cf18a7cbe3c203ed933af589\">The exhibition <em>Glenna Johnson Smith: Writer, Artist, Teacher, <\/em>remains on view from October 4 to November 22, 2024. It includes manuscripts, original artwork, and other mementos.
