Perhaps you make daily use of it or at least once a week. If not, you undoubtedly know someone who does. It saves paper, is reasonably priced, and boasts practically limitless capacity. You can modify brightness, color, or size. You guessed right\u2014we are discussing e-books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9e3ffec01e82a61fdef851629add1e3c\">While e-books have been around for decades they grew&nbsp; rapidly in the late 2000s. In 2007, Amazon Kindle, the first e-reader by Amazon, appeared on the market and sold out in less than six hours. In 2010, Apple launched the iBooks app, later renamed to Apple Books. According to data collected by Statista, more than one billion people use e-books today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-360bacafa75130acf93e912e053e8111\">Lydia Colic, 24, is a graduate student completing her master\u2019s degree in library and information science.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-78b3737ae55bbee3dde7a5da37f52502\">\u201cThe Internet changed a lot. Librarians might spend more time on the computer than dealing with the printed work during a usual work day,\u201d she explained. \u201cI think the last time I bought a book in the bookstore was months ago. I do order printed books online, but I rarely enter the bookstore and buy books nowadays.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2b4dd051396d4a539f4ce90872722070\">Elisa Sottana, 33, runs a bookstore near Venice, Italy, with her partner. She\u2019s been in the business since 2015. Her customers are mostly \u201cpeople between 40 and 70, but also a good amount of families with children\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-13f802db2cffd8e851bcd9217cb592b0\">Sottana reflected on the future of brick and mortar bookstores and is optimistic about the future..&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-89e342dca2b37ba18819dbe619b34cac\">\u201cDespite the fact that numerous people had already declared the death of printed books and bookstores with the arrival of e-readers, the market hasn\u2019t changed that much,\u201d she said. \u201cThere certainly are a good amount of people who have turned to these new means of reading, but they are a minority. I\u2019m thinking especially of people with sight issues or who travel frequently and can\u2019t carry heavy books around.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-209ce0715c71873ee4c3ad894c4035f1\">At the same time, Sottana said that the e-book market changed the expectations customers have of traditional bookstores.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8fd98a2012d47a4b057c803e17a3fc99\">\u201cThe shipping rates and times Amazon offers are delirious, and often people expect any average bookstore to keep up with them,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c2bf5c1f2cf3cb117266faa97009efa3\">Sottana added that people don\u2019t realize that notion \u201cis inhuman and unsustainable on so many levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-aea94e515e6bb8b920451923907c4670\">Finally, Sottana encouraged booksellers to \u201cbuild a relationship with whoever enters your shop,\u201d which she indicated was instrumental to her store\u2019s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ab1966989aabe9a84ee63527f2af5a03\">\u201cIntercept their taste, learn their names,&nbsp; and care for them,\u201d she urged. \u201cThey will&nbsp; come back. It might sound clich\u00e9, but Amazon or any other online shops don\u2019t offer smiles and there is certainly little personal interaction.
