Miranda is receiving a degree in Environmental Science and a certificate in GIS Technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7170\" style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/2022\/05\/02\/senior-spotlight-miranda-cashmere-washinawatok\/miranda-cashmere-washinawatok-with-her-mom\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7170\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7170\" class=\" wp-image-7170\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2022\/05\/Miranda-Cashmere-Washinawatok-with-her-mom.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/05\/Miranda-Cashmere-Washinawatok-with-her-mom.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2022\/05\/Miranda-Cashmere-Washinawatok-with-her-mom-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7170\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Miranda Cashmere Washinawatok with her mom.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0While at UMPI, volleyball was a large part of Miranda\u2019s career. As a freshman and sophomore, she was chosen to be captain of the volleyball team. As a junior and senior, the offers were still available to her. Miranda, however, declined so that she could focus on school for her last two years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI definitely think in my last two year here, I\u2019ve transitioned into teaching the younger players and teammates how to see the game from my perspective,\u201d Miranda said. \u201cI\u2019m still looked up to as a leader, just in a different sense.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Miranda is incredibly passionate about the sport of volleyball. She uses that to help teach and encourage her younger teammates. She said, \u201cVolleyball is a big deal in my life. I\u2019ve tried to implement my teaching and my IQ through stories and talking with my teammates. I try to share my help as if I was in their shoes.\u201d Miranda also mentioned that she encourages her teammates to step out of their comfort zone and try things that are not as normal as usual<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Over time, Miranda has also learned a lot from the game that she has been teaching for so long. \u201cYou must learn how to play with new players and with new coaches. It\u2019s a lot of learning throughout the four years,\u201d Miranda said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Miranda also knows that now is the time to pass the baton onto the younger teammates. Even though she hasn\u2019t had much time to prepare for it, she is not worried. \u201cI didn\u2019t have to think about that until this year, but I am very content. More so happy than anything that I trust these girls not only to do it for me but for themselves. Seeing myself in them makes me feel secure.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Miranda always had a goal in mind for every season, whether they were personal goals or goals that would help the team. She always wanted the best for the team. \u201cMy coach asked me if I wanted to play at the Maine Maritime Academy game and I told him, \u2018You know what, these young girls got it. Let these girls play\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0For her teammates, Miranda is a huge inspiration. Sophomore Bailey LaPlante mentioned the inspiration from Miranda. \u201cWe call her Granny. She\u2019s a real authority figure and role model to us throughout the season. I look up to her.\u201d Sophomore Alondra Lopez talked about the personal connection she has with Mir. \u201cI\u2019m so grateful to have a teammate that is basically an assistant coach for us as well. There is non-stop teaching from this woman, not even just with volleyball. It\u2019s been great to see her improve as well as seeing her help us grow and learn as a team\u2026. This woman is good at volleyball.\u201d Both of these teammates, as well as the rest of the volleyball team, look up to Miranda as a friend, teammate and role model.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As she moves on from her ungraduate time here at UMPI to the next chapter in her life, Miranda is happy with the path she has chosen. \u201cUMPI was the best decision of my life.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Wherever she ends up, Miranda will be a leader as well as a teacher to whomever she meets. Just because her time at UMPI is up doesn\u2019t mean her time with the sport of volleyball is. Miranda said, \u201cJust because it\u2019s my last season, that doesn\u2019t mean the game is over for me.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Congratulations on your journey, Miranda.
