We have not seen the true impact that other producers and directors have been making because the media focuses on Hollywood and all the movies they release: until now.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the past few months, a South Korean TV-series called \u201cSquid Game\u201d\u00a0 has completely taken over the internet, becoming a worldwide sensation. Over 142 million households watched \u201cSquid Game\u201d on Netflix, making it the most-watched series in the history of this streaming service. It was many people\u2019s first time watching a show that originated in a different country, such as South Korea. Americans usually watch Hollywood movies and content that are from the United States. They do not usually talk about international films, shows and even music.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Netflix has made it available for viewers to watch foreign shows with English subtitles and likewise. In recent years, international movies and shows, such as \u201cLupin\u201d and \u201cMoney Heist,\u201d have been on the rise. They have also been great hits on Netflix. By offering different subtitles in many countries, Netflix has lifted the language barrier.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The mainstream entertainment that the United States creates is becoming boring to many people. Super Hero films have been the governing genre of Hollywood for decades now. America has had a problem with coming up with new ideas for movies and shows. There have been a lot of remakes and movies with similar plots. Daniel Ivanik feels burnt out by these Hollywood films and shows.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThe overproduction of the same old movies gets very boring and is not exciting to watch. Movie releases are not thrilling because you know that by next month another similar movie will be out.\u201d Daniel is also upset about all of the \u201cStar Wars\u201d content that has been produced. \u201cI used to be a die-hard fan and could not miss any \u201cStar Wars\u201d media. Now, not only am I upset with the quality of \u201cStar Wars\u201d but also the quantity.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The popularity of \u201cSquid Game\u201d can show Hollywood that it is worth spending money on new and creative ideas. Having non-English shows entertain Americans would also help cut down the budget that Hollywood spends on creating new movies. They would be able to catch a break instead of pushing out reruns.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The impact that \u201cSquid Game\u201d had around the world did not really surprise Ilia Ivanik. \u201cIn 2020, the Korean film \u2018Parasite\u2019 won an Oscar. This shows that any country has the possibility of having their films or TV series blow up. This is not the first or last time it will happen. Hopefully, this will open up the door for other international media. I think people are starting to notice how repetitive Western films are.\u201d Ilia also reveals why he thinks foreign films are becoming more appealing. \u201cForeign entertainment is different, which makes it refreshing to watch. It is done in a way that people have not seen before. Personally, I enjoy Korean dramas because of the difference in our cultures. I find their culture very interesting, especially with the way they interact with each other.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We do not know if Hollywood will get inspired and create changes because of \u201cSquid Game.\u201d But Ilia does not believe that Hollywood will ever change. \u201cWhen you look at the movies and TV-shows that are big in America, you see Marvel as the main theme. The franchise is doing very well. It would be a huge risk if Hollywood decided to step away from doing what they do well. Even if a Hollywood producer wanted to do something new, I still think he would rather stick to playing it safe.\u201d He is saying that there are more downsides to Hollywood changing than if they remained the same.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If Hollywood will not change, then is there ever going to be someone in America who can create a new genre and cause an impact like \u201cSquid Game\u201d? Ilia has faith that there are some small producers out there that will take inspiration from \u201cSquid Game.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It is time for new ideas and genres to be introduced into movies. Giving smaller producers a chance may create the possibility of change that Americans need in their entertainment. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
