\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cSpotlight\u201d is a film that follows an investigation into the Catholic Church and the corruption <\/span>behind it. There was a slew of settling cases outside of court in order to protect the Church\u2019s big <\/span>secret. The Church would do anything to cover up the molestation of minors and protect the <\/span>priests\u2014and the Church\u2019s reputation–from the public.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Globe decided to sue the Catholic Church in order to get the sealed documents from cases involving priests molesting children. After this, Marty Baron, the new editor, suggested that the Spotlight team take over the story since it was an investigative report.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Robby Robinson, Mike Rezendes, Sacha Pfeiffer and Matt Carroll were all members of the <\/span>Spotlight team of the Boston Globe. This is a team that investigates stories in order to tell the <\/span>public the truth about what is going on in the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After Baron offered the story, the Spotlight team jumped right into researching those involved in the cover-ups. The Catholic Church wasn\u2019t going to go down without a fight. During the court battle, the Church was accusatory. The lawyers said that the Globe was simply trying to sell newspapers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As this was happening, Mike was getting more information from Mitchell Garabedian, a <\/span>lawyer who was representing many of those who had been molested. In at least one instance, the Catholic Church covered up a molestation by threatening another priest into staying silent. The more the team learned about the case, the riskier it got to follow.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Even though they faced many roadblocks, Robby, Mike, Sacha and Matt continued to <\/span>research the story. They believed the public deserved to know the truth and the priests needed to <\/span>be held accountable. The group risked their jobs in order to tell the world the truth.\u00a0 Throughout the investigation, the Spotlight group continued to dig, even when it seemed as though they would not succeed. They never gave up on telling the public the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Each of the members of Spotlight had to give up certain things in order to follow the story. Sacha used to go to church with her nana. She stopped going because of the story. Robby faced issues from his coworkers and his personal life. Many people told the team to drop the story. Matt had anxiety because a facility to \u201ctreat\u201d priests was just a street away from his. He feared for his children’s safety. Mike faced similar problems to Robby\u2019s. He also was trying to prove himself in a sense. He seemed to be continually trying to prove to others that he was an asset and a good reporter. Mike also tried to push the story because he was passionate.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After they were able to expose the church, the team members gained a lot of insight. Their job was extremely important. The story was a difficult one to research and write. Throughout the process, they had to face the victims. This was extremely hard because of the traumatic topic. They all gained a new perspective on both their jobs and their relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Everyone should see this film to learn about the truth behind an aspect of the Catholic Church. If you don\u2019t know about this issue, you should. This film will open your eyes to the trauma some go through when a part of the Catholic religion. These journalists did everything in their power to make sure the Church was held accountable for their actions. They did this because the First Amendment and Freedom of the Press allow them to follow the story through to the finish.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Journalists will do anything for a good story. They risk their lives, jobs and sanity in order to <\/span>get the information out to the public. In \u201cSpotlight,\u201d they show just how far journalists will go to <\/span>educate the masses.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This fast-paced film follows the intricate process behind an investigative report. Full of big <\/span>name actors such as Mark Ruffolo, Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci and Rachel McAdams,<\/span>\u201cSpotlight\u201d is a must-see film.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
