You dream of something you won\u2019t forget, something memorable. The Trojan has a mask on, showing the great efforts that the high school is putting into following the COVID-19 guidelines.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0COVID is preventing high school seniors from having a typical senior year. This is due to the rules and limitations from social distancing, unusual schedules and isolation. Even though schools have spent a lot of time making sure students have a school year, it hasn\u2019t been the same. And some of the seniors feel forgotten. Finn Seyffer, a senior at\u00a0 Mount Desert Island High School, said how most of the students feel. \u201cAt this point, the isolation sucks and we just need a fraction of normality at the end.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The seniors thought that since students can be in a classroom and in the halls with masks on, they could go to a dance, too. So the seniors at MDIHS are working together to plan an event to commemorate their last year. They plan to follow COVID rules for this event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After starting a poll on Instagram asking, \u201cIf MDHIS was to host a COVID regulated event, would you go?\u201d 158 people saw it. Ninety percent said yes. Trying to get more knowledge on what to plan, they asked, \u201cIf you said yes, what would this event look like?\u201d The most common response was, \u201cWe need a PROM!\u201d The poll asked another question on what it means to the seniors: \u201c Why did you say yes?\u201d Amber Rinaldi summed up how most seniors feel when she said, \u201c I feel like I missed out on a lot in my senior year, and I regret that so much.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After talking to more seniors, Katie Smith stood out when she said, \u201cI have worked so hard to be the best I can. To just forget and not have anything\u2026.\u201d She pointed out just how much being a senior means and how seniors haven\u2019t gotten that normality this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0MDIHS principal Matt Haney is in full support of the seniors and their efforts. He said, \u201cEven though I am busy and unable to help plan the event, I am supporting you all the way.\u201d COVID rules have made more options for the seniors to plan something. Haney agreed with the students and said, \u201cLast year when COVID hit, there was nothing for the seniors. This year we have more opportunities.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The seniors at MDIHS have come together and showed that they deserve something to enjoy the moments they have left together. Taking what they have learned with them from the pandemic, the class of 2021 will join the adults of society. One of the most crucial lessons they will take with them is that they are not as strong alone as they are united.
