My brother, sister and I would wake one another up at 5 a.m., because the anticipation to see what Santa had brought us made it impossible to sleep. Creeping down the stairs Christmas morning, our Nana would always greet us. Coffee in hand, she would lead us to the kitchen for freshly baked Monkey Bread, a tradition the four of us shared. Personally, I think the monkey bread was a distraction she created to give our parents an extra 20 minutes of sleep.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Regardless of how the tradition started, Monkey Bread became a staple of the Davis\u2019 family Christmas. For those of you who don\u2019t know what Monkey Bread is, it\u2019s a doughy, buttery, cinnamon treat. But don\u2019t just take my word for it: try the recipe out for yourself!<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6385\" style=\"width: 245px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/2020\/11\/27\/nanas-monkey-bread\/yummy-cinnamon-goodness\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6385\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6385\" class=\" wp-image-6385\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/11\/Yummy-cinnamon-goodness-776x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2020\/11\/Yummy-cinnamon-goodness-776x1024.jpg 776w, https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2020\/11\/Yummy-cinnamon-goodness-227x300.jpg 227w, https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2020\/11\/Yummy-cinnamon-goodness-768x1014.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2020\/11\/Yummy-cinnamon-goodness-1164x1536.jpg 1164w, https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2020\/11\/Yummy-cinnamon-goodness.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 235px) 100vw, 235px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6385\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yummy cinnamon goodness!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Ingredients<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00bd cup granulated sugar<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a01 teaspoon cinnamon<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a02 cans (16.3 oz each) of Pillsbury Grands<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#x2122; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">biscuits<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a01 cup of firmly packed brown sugar<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00be cup of butter or margarine, melted<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Optional: \u00bd cup of chopped walnuts and\/or \u00bd cup of raisins<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Steps<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a01 Heat oven to 350<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00b0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">F. Generously grease 12-cup fluted tube pan with shortening or cooking spray. In a large gallon plastic food storage bag, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a02 Separate dough into 16 biscuits; cut each biscuit into quarters. Place pieces into bag of sugar and cinnamon, coating the dough in mixture. Arrange the pieces of dough in pan. If desired, add in walnuts or raisins. Sprinkle any remaining sugar over the dough in the pan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a03 In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and butter; pour over biscuit pieces.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a04 Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Loosen edges of the pan with spatula. Cool in pan for 5 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a05 Eat the Monkey Bread out of the pan, or turn upside down onto serving plate.
