{"id":5706,"date":"2019-02-25T09:51:06","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T14:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/?p=5706"},"modified":"2025-08-22T18:52:53","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T22:52:53","slug":"heart-healthy-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/2019\/02\/25\/heart-healthy-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Heart Healthy Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Don\u2019t forget to wear Red in February for Heart Disease Awareness Month.\u00a0 Exercise and dietary changes can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure.\u00a0 Eating foods that are high in Omega 3 fatty acids is proven to help lower cholesterol levels.\u00a0 Some of those foods would be salmon and other fish, almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds and chia seeds, just to name a few.\u00a0 Some other heart healthy foods would be green leafy vegetables, berries, whole grains, avocados, dark chocolate and olive oils.\u00a0 So for Valentine\u2019s Day this year you could have bought your loved one some strawberries dipped in dark chocolate!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If it\u2019s too cold to get outside, don\u2019t forget about all the fitness classes I teach.\u00a0 Monday, Wednesday and Friday I have Fit Camp from 5-5:45 p.m. \u00a0Tuesdays I teach a Total Body Weight Training class from 12-12:30 p.m. \u00a0And Monday and Thursdays I teach Fusion from 12-12:45 p.m. in the Campus Center, room 112.\u00a0 I also offer personal training if you need someone to set you up on a personalized workout routine.\u00a0 Email me at <a href=\"mailto:keli.marston@maine.edu\">keli.marston@maine.edu<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome back students for a second semester!!\u00a0 Let\u2019s get active with some intramurals!<\/p>\n<p>Basketball sign up is from Feb. 25 until March 1.\u00a0 Basketball season will start on March 4.
