It was a sort of fairwell and reunion rolled into one. It was a community spanning almoot 20 years coming together to celebrate one last time<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Seventy-five teens and young adults are crammed into an old smoky VFW hall.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>All the kids are slight variations of the ones next to them.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They might have a different hairstyle or studs on their jackets.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The smell of sweat soaks through the room.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Outside at the ticket counter there are pamphlets for \u201cModern Feminism,\u201d \u201cGoing off the Grid\u201d and \u201cHow to Take Advantage of Squatting Laws.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There is loud music being blown out through small speakers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There is no stage, just microphones between the crowd and the band. This is a \u201cpunk rock show.\u201d This is a community.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cPunk\u201d was a response to the glam and grand scale of the rock music of the \u201880s and \u201890s.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was loud, aggressive and simple.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Underneath that aggression was a call for change in society and what was considered normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Taman Eggers, a show booker for punk rock shows across the Midwestern United States currently living in Minneapolis, said, \u201cIt\u2019s hard to define because there are so many different factions of it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They all contain their own rules and ideals.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They all come from the same root, but have splintered off so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The ability to categorize something as important becomes difficult when there are so many different communities that claim to represent it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The word \u201ccommunity\u201d is the word that really stands out, however.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Eggers said, \u201cCommunity is what drives them together.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They all strive for a community of like-minded people to work toward making a change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The longevity of a community that met in person to celebrate its ideals and music was not sustainable at the core.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The rise of the internet has really made it a different place.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Eggers said, \u201cPeople don\u2019t need to go to shows to discover music anymore or to meet like-minded people.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They are able to look online.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>On one hand that is awesome: for people in the middle of nowhere, they have a common ground.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>For people in the city, though, it can seem like it is tearing it apart from the inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>There is a question of if it is still important, and according to Eggers it is. \u201cI think that people\u2019s ability to market themselves to a wider audience through the internet is great.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The music style has changed, but the ideals haven\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The mosh-pits and screaming may have gone away, but music is still at the core of what it means to be punk. \u201cThe music has evolved into Hip-Hop.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A lot of what artists in that community are doing is important because, just like the the \u201880s and \u201890s, it is the disenfranchised that are making the music.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They see change that they want enacted and have found a medium to preach that message,\u201d Eggers said in response to the rise of Hip-Hop to take a more directly political approach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Whether it be wailing guitars or turntables, the punk
