{"id":4770,"date":"2017-04-21T09:49:56","date_gmt":"2017-04-21T13:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/?p=4770"},"modified":"2025-08-13T18:59:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T22:59:54","slug":"april-28-and-29-international-astronomy-day-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/2017\/04\/21\/april-28-and-29-international-astronomy-day-events\/","title":{"rendered":"April 28 and 29 \u2013 International Astronomy Day events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2017\/04\/telescope-clipart-cliparti1_telescope-clip-art_01-1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4771\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.umpi.edu\/utimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2017\/04\/telescope-clipart-cliparti1_telescope-clip-art_01-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAstronomy Day was first celebrated on California in 1973.\u00a0 It was developed as a program to share information about astronomy with the general public.\u00a0 In 1973, astronomy day was only held in the fall.\u00a0 Today, it is held in the fall and the spring.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Spring International Astronomy Day is scheduled for April 29.\u00a0 Throughout the world, thousands of people will have an opportunity to learn about astronomy and, weather permitting, look through telescopes at the sun and the nighttime sky.\u00a0 These events are sponsored by groups such as astronomy clubs, observatories, planetariums, libraries and other entities that promote astronomy and space science.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This year, the Francis Malcolm Science Center, the UMPI Astronomy Club and the Aroostook County Astronomy Club are teaming up to bring the Spring International Astronomy Day to Aroostook County.<\/p>\n<p>The event begins on Friday night, April 28, 201,7 at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. AT) when the Francis Malcolm Science Center in Easton, Maine, presents <u>2 SMALL PIECES OF GLASS<\/u>! Join Mr. B as he takes us on a trip to investigate the wonders of four centuries of telescope investigation. <u>Please call (207) 488-5451, or e-mail <\/u><a href=\"mailto:tricia@francismalcolmsciencecenter.com\">tricia@francismalcolmsciencecenter.com<\/a> for reservations. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children, $20 for a family.
