For Christensen, this will be her second time attending university. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas University in New Brunswick, Canada.<br>This time, Christensen will be a commuter student, pursuing a degree in elementary education at UMPI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\"><br>\u201cI had to find a phone plan that works in both Canada and the U.S.,\u201d she said, explaining the kind of preparations that go into studying across the border. \u201cYou have to get something like a visa. I got all worried that my passport was expired, but thankfully it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Christensen often gets questions regarding whether she drives across the border each day.\u00a0 It\u2019s a common reaction to her status as a cross-border commuter, but it doesn\u2019t faze her!<br>\u201cI get to stay at home and drive over,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m most excited to learn, and I\u2019m happy it\u2019s a small university since that\u2019s what I\u2019m used to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Known for its small class sizes and friendly campus atmosphere, UMPI is an ideal fit for students like Christensen who prefer a more personal academic experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Outside of class, Christensen enjoys music.\u00a0<br>\u201cI play guitar and sing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7 wp-block-paragraph\"><br>If she could take any elective just for fun? \u201cMusical theatre,\u201d she said. \u201cI took a couple of classes at St. Thomas, and I liked them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXf8akc8s9i-X2qQPnX1cfwmag154KvUvyTP5b9hvltUZrZ6OYrRFZNsINwuHkJpO-t852RYNBGbDPSd7lY1NjPuR3VkIWKy4fpM7W0--wzfvteWjU38lYmhNLlzlQsPCtw8Dc2XDg?key=aVYWubenuoBKIcGiiFHQyQ\" width=\"624\" height=\"419\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Christie Oneill, Staff Writer Annie Christensen is a new student this fall at the University of Presque Isle (UMPI).
