Kevin McCartney is a Professor of Geology and Environmental Studies at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. During February to June 2022, he is a Fulbright Scholar in Lucknow India, where we continues his scientific work in micropaleontology. Kevin studies the silicoflagellates, single celled algae that live in the modern oceans and have a long geologic history. He posts daily pictures from India on this page.

Kevin was previously a Fulbright Scholar in Szczecin Poland during two semesters 2016-2017 and Kościuszko Scholar in Spring 2019. Pictures from these travels can be seen on this site using the links below.

More Chestnuts

Collecting chestnuts is a popular Polish tradition.  We of course do not see much in the way of chestnuts any more since the great dying of the a century ago, but here is what they look like, in the original spiny fruit, and once the fruit is opened.  Very pretty things.
