Your Course Design Timeline

Planning for success

3-5 months from the start date

  • Meet with mentor faculty to obtain course details, such as Learning Outcomes and primary texts associated with the course
  • Conceptualize Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and meet with CTL IDs as needed to map potential assessments
  • Determine delivery modality and engage in training, as necessary to get up and running

2-4 months from the start date

  • Begin gathering and organizing course content that will support students meeting planned assessments
  • Review strategies to create active learning and engagement opportunities
  • Create and/or produce any learning content, including final assessments and assignments

1-3 months from the start date

  • Draft your syllabus
  • Test web tools and/or strategies as needed
  • Create assessments supplements and rubrics as needed
  • Request streaming rights and/or copyright permissions from the Library

1-4 weeks from the start date

  • Review your grade center to ensure that it is displaying your preferred weights, categories, etc.
  • Submit your syllabus to your department’s designated administrative assistant
  • Schedule any last minute tutorials or how-tos with CTL
